Meditation: Waters symbolize chaos and destruction at times in scripture. It was not fitting that man be made to live in the water. Therefore God brought forth land from the sea that man could live on. Here we see a sign of baptism, where the cleansing of the water brings forth land, which is a symbol of the Church.
Psalm verse: The earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein; for he has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the rivers. (Ps 24:1-2)
Prayer: Thank you, O Lord, for the gift of land and sea.
Scripture: And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. (Gen 1:9-10)
