Paschaltide Reflections Week 5 Day 3

Meditation:

The Church’s veneration of saints is not a post-biblical corruption, but something that is rooted in Old Testament worship. We see the Psalmist regularly invokes the angels to praise God. Indeed, he invokes the whole host of God, and all ministers who do God’s will, to praise God. In the Old Testament, only angels were in heaven with God. However, through the resurrection of Christ, human saints too have been raised up to the heavenly host.

Psalm 103:19-22

The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word! Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will! Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Prayer:

Christ is risen from the dead,
By death trampling down on death,
And to those in the tomb,
He has granted life!
