Meditation:
Ancient pagans believed that while things on earth perish, the heavenly bodies, what we now call outer space, was eternal and unchanging. The heavens were worshiped as gods. The Psalmist provides a radical critique of this idolatry. While the creation is great, even the heavens will one day pass away. The creation is meant to point us to the Creator, not to be worshiped itself.
Psalm 102:25-27
Of old thou didst lay the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They will perish, but thou dost endure; they will all wear out like a garment. Thou changest them like raiment, and they pass away; but thou art the same, and thy years have no end.
Prayer:
Christ is risen from the dead,
By death trampling down on death,
And to those in the tomb,
He has granted life!
