There are many signs in the universe that show the existence of God the Creator. One of them is definitely the existence of human DNA. DNA contains within it the gene composed of four AGTC nucleotides, which are adenine, guanine, thymine and cytosine. All of this is called the genetic information. They are connected like letters and words in a written manner. In other words, information can be described as a brilliant programmatic code or register of thoughts that indicates the existence of the personal intelligence of God the Creator. So the four GATC nucleotides can only come from an intelligent being. It is impossible for matter alone to produce such complex information or code; the only source of this information in DNA can be the mind and intelligence. Let us now take a look at the complexity of genetic structure and function to realize the richness that lies within genetics and how it is present in all this biochemical dialogue. The divine creative intelligence has laid down the laws according to which the life of plants, animals and human beings takes place. But I will focus mainly on human DNA.
When we talk about the transfer of information it occurs in the following way: DNA – transcription – RNA (translation) – protein. Within our DNA there are also enzymes that constantly circulate around the DNA to make possible the vital and metabolic activities of our body. This very reality that is so complex, rich, and intelligent already at the biological and microscopic level, which indicates the intelligence and creativity of God the Creator and His design of love that goes into the details so small that man could not even imagine.
It is the scientific fact that human life begins with the conception of a zygote cell. This cell already contains within itself the genetic code that directs its development to its end, the formation of the human body. Each cell has within it the manual with the directions that God the Creator has encoded in it. Each cell functions as an immense world. The 200 different cell types have the same genetic material, but follow different pathways of differentiation. The cells that follow the same type of differentiation are called tissues (epithelial, muscular, nervous). Different tissues are then formed organizing various organs, but with a main and common function form systems and apparatuses (respiratory, endocrine, cardio) which constitute an organism. This organism then is capable of self-preservation, its own metabolism, and reproducing and maintaining its own species. As God the Creator says: “Be fruitful and multiply.” This extraordinary and beautiful capacity encoded in the cells and genes drive us to wonder at the greatness and infinite wisdom and genius of God the Creator and our Father. This material dimension takes on an even greater aspect as it contains the divine dimension in that the body is united with the soul that is directly created by God, and from all this derives the dignity and sacredness of life in all its dimensions.
DNA can arrange itself in many ways and thus many different species can be derived from it. It is precisely the multiplicity of species that represents the infinity of the God the Creator and His Omnipotence and Creativity.
On the other hand, the logic and mentality of this world with regard to genetics could be somewhat illustrated by Boncinelli:
The more we know about genetics, the more we can think of freeing ourselves from its conditioning and aspire to be increasingly free.
This is genomania: the genome becomes the human Bible, book of life, genome mystique, the materialistic and biologistic conception whereby man realizes himself by constituting and designing himself. Man takes the place of God. Today, longevity is imposed. It is said that it is enough for man to live 70 years, but billionaires do everything to reach 100 years through organ drilling. Today we go even further and want to find the key to the ‘immortal gene.’ People will do anything to achieve it and this will only be possible for the chosen ones (eugenics). Who are we to decide when one will die and how long one will live? I am not the lord of my life nor of my death. Only God has the keys to life and only He is lord of it. For as the Creed says: “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.”
This gives the illusion of totality. Knowledge is reduced to the description of all the elements of a whole. Even if we had all the answers that biology and medicine and technology offer us, the mystery of man is not touched at all because precisely man is mystery. For example, at the Tower of Babel, men who turned away from God and used technology. They said, “let us make bricks” — through this technology they thought they could achieve their fullness, their happiness, by building this tower which could touch the sky. Why should this be wrong? God said, “Nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them,” and so he came down and confused the tongues. First they were united, but then all disunited. They could not touch heaven. Despite having in the arrangement as they had to make bricks this technology does not allow them to reach heaven. It is impossible because heaven moves higher and higher. Every brick they put, heaven is farther and farther away. With every artifice we make, happiness is farther and farther away. We do not make ourselves happy by ourselves; we are teleological beings and we are always on the way. We do not find happiness by ourselves and we do not already possess it. This example is to illustrate that fullness and total happiness cannot be attained in the earthly realm because happiness is eternity; happiness is God because He is eternal therefore happiness is attained in the heavenly realm.
The discoveries of genetics and all the other disciplines that science offers should lead us to wonder and humility and awareness of our creaturality and greater humility and love before the magnificence of God who is infinitely Good, Intelligent and Wise precisely because He is Love, and therefore is infinite and perfect in everything. When one reaches this awareness, then it becomes easier to be ‘in the likeness of God the Creator’ and humanize the technology and discoveries of genetics and direct them towards the true good, i.e. towards true service of one’s neighbor and his life, health, integrity and true freedom. It could help even those who could potentially have the greatest predisposition to genetic pathologies indicated by prenatal diagnosis but also towards those who actually suffer from genetic diseases, such as Duchenne dystrophy, phenylketonuria, Down’s syndrome, Klinfelter’s disease, etc. When viewed in this light then, the values of truth, freedom, and justice manifest themselves in the principles of common good, dignity, solidarity, and subsidiarity. The more dignity the better, the more freedom the better, the more truth the better. Truth: even if sick with a genetic defect you are a child of God; freedom: you are not that genetic defect, you are much more and you are worthy of living and you are important!; solidarity: we support you, we help you, subsidiarity: politics and government help with means of support, with drugs, with helping families with children who have genetic defects, and therefore Common Good, and therefore charity. Deus Caritas est. While solidarity has the other person as its object, charity has God as its object. Ubi Caritas est Vera Deus ibi est. The more you love God, the more you love others and become like God, i.e. alter Christus.
So I repeat that every discovery and every advance in technology, biomedicine, science, that is, every brick they put in, every artifice we build, should lead us to the recognition of God the Creator and the recognition of our creaturality in love and humility. In every brick we build, happiness is always there. Because technology and technologies are established in the sphere of acting, which is only one aspect of the human being, it is not that deeper sphere and therefore cannot give him happiness. The perfection of the human being is not only practical – active, but also ethical – contemplative. I must act well to attain the Supreme Good, the Creator God, to contemplate his Glory in Trinitarian Love and in perfect communion with the Triune God. For this we must do good and for this we must direct technology and the discoveries of genetics, etc., which are certainly the gifts of God the Creator and the expression of His infinitude, wisdom and goodness. We must direct them towards good and not towards evil, for life and not against life, because technology in itself is never neutral, science in itself is never neutral, but always has to do with man’s responsibility. It is man who intervenes for another man who is a person and has his own dignity and the sacredness of life precisely because he is a person. So technique is not neutral and must be used either for good or for evil, either towards the service and glory of God or towards sin, towards truth or towards lies, towards the interests of the patient or towards socio-economic interests.
So lastly: Sickness and death remind us of our finitude and therefore happiness consists in another way: in perfect union with God the Creator who created us in self-love. Quia inquietur est cor meum donec requiescat in Te.

Esistono molti segni nell’universo che mostrano esistenza di Dio Creatore e uno di questi è sicuramente l’esistenza del DNA umano. Il DNA contiene in sé il gene composto da quattro nucleotidi AGTC, che sono adenina, guanina, timina e citosina e tutto questo si chiama l’informazione genetica che sono connessi come lettere e parole in maniera scritta. In altre parole informazione si può descrivere come brillante codice programmatico o registro di pensieri che indica l’esistenza della intelligenza personale di Dio Creatore. Quindi i 4 nucleotidi AGTC possono provenire solo dall’essere intelligente. È impossibile che una sola materia produca una informazione o un codice così complesso; unica fonte di queste informazioni in DNA possono essere la mente e l’intelligenza. Vediamo ora un po’ la complessità della struttura e funzione genetica per renderci conto della ricchezza che sta dentro la genetica e come è presente in tutto questo dialogo biochimico intelligenza creatrice divina che ha messo le leggi secondo le quali avviene la vita delle piante, degli animali e degli esseri umani. Però mi focalizzo soprattutto al DNA umano.
Quando parliamo del trasferimento della informazione essa avviene in seguente maniera: DNA – trascrizione – RNA (traduzione) – proteina. All’interno del nostro DNA ci sono anche presenti gli enzimi che circolano costantemente dentro il DNA per rendere possibili le attività vitali e metaboliche del nostro corpo. Proprio questa realtà così complessa e ricca ed intelligente già al livello biologico e microscopico indica l’intelligenza e la creatività di Dio Creatore e il suo disegno dell’amore che va nei dettagli così piccoli che uomo non poteva neanche immaginare.
È il fatto scientifico che la vita umana inizia con la concezione di una cellula zigote. Questa cellula già contiene in sé il codice genetico che indirizza il suo sviluppo che finisce con la formazione del corpo umano. Ogni cellula ha in sé il manuale con le indicazioni che in sé ha codificato Dio Creatore. Ogni cellula funziona come un mondo immenso. I 200 tipi di cellule diverse hanno lo stesso materiale genetiche, ma seguono le vie di differenziazioni diverse. Dunque le cellule che seguono lo stesso tipo di differenziazione si chiamano tessuti (epiteliale, muscolare, nervoso) poi diversi tessuti si formano organizzando organo e poi organi diversi, ma con una funzione principale e comune formano sistemi e apparati (respiratorio, endocrino, cardio) i quali costituiscono organismo. Questo organismo poi è capace di auto preservarsi e di avere il proprio metabolismo, poi è capace di riprodursi e di mantenere la propria specie. Dice Dio Creatore: “Fecondatevi e moltiplicatevi” Questa straordinaria e bellissima capacità codificata nelle cellule e nei geni ci spingono allo stupore davanti alla grandezza e la saggezza e genio infinito di Dio Creatore nostro Padre. Poi questa dimensione materiale assume un aspetto ancora più grande dato che contiene la dimensione divina in quanto il corpo viene unito all’anima che è direttamente creata da Dio e da tutto questo deriva la dignità e la sacralità della vita in tutte le sue dimensioni.
Il DNA può rappresentarsi in molti modi e quindi da esso possono derivare molteplici specie e proprio la molteplicità della specie rappresenta l’infinita del Dio Creatore e la Sua Onnipotenza e la Creatività.
Invece la logica e la mentalità di questo mondo riguardo alla genetica potrebbe essere un po’ illustrata con i seguenti motivi: “Da una parte più sappiamo della genetica è sempre più possibile pensare di svincolarci dai suoi condizionamenti e aspirare ad essere sempre più liberi” dice Boncinelli. Genomania: il genoma come Bibbia umana, libro della vita, mistica del genoma; concezione materialistica e biologistica per cui uomo si realizza auto costituendosi e auto progettandosi. Prende uomo il posto di Dio. Oggi si imposta la longevità. Si parla che all’uomo è sufficiente che viva 70 anni però i miliardari fanno tutto per raggiungere 100 anni tramite la trapanazione degli organi. Oggi si va ancora oltre e si vuole trovare la chiave per il “gene immortale” e la gente farà tutto per raggiungerlo e questo sarà possibile soltanto per i prescelti (eugenetica). Chi siamo noi per decidere quando uno morirà e quanto vivrà? Io non sono il signore della mia vita né della mia morte. Solo Dio ha delle chiavi della vita e solo Lui è signore di esso. Perché come dice Credo: “Credo nello Spirito Santo che è Signore e dà la vita.”
Illusione di totalità: la conoscenza si riduce alla descrizione di tutti gli elementi di un insieme. Anche se avessimo tutte le risposte che la biologia e la medicina e la tecnologia ci offrono il mistero dell’uomo non viene minimamente sfiorato perché appunto uomo è mistero. Esempio di torre di Babele: questi uomini che si allontanano da Dio e usano la tecnica – dicono: “facciamoci mattoni” – attraverso questa tecnica pensano di poter conseguire la loro pienezza, la loro felicità – costruendo questa torre con qui tocchi il cielo. Perché questo dovrebbe essere sbagliato? Dio dice: “Quanto hanno in mente di fare non sarà a loro impossibile” e quindi scende e confonde le lingue. Prima erano uniti, ma poi tutti disuniti. Non riescono a toccare il cielo. Pur avendo in disposizione come avevano loro di fare i mattoni questa tecnologia non gli consente di raggiungere il cielo. È impossibile perché questo cielo si sposta sempre più su. Ogni mattone che mettono, il cielo è sempre più là. Ogni artificio che noi costituiamo, la felicità è sempre più là. Noi non ci facciamo felici da noi stessi; siamo esseri teleologici e sempre siamo in cammino. non troviamo la felicità da soli e non la possediamo già. Questo è esempio metaforico per dire che la pienezza e la felicità totale non può essere raggiunta in regno terrestre. perché la felicità è eternità, la felicità è Dio perché Lui è eterno quindi la felicità viene raggiunta nel regno dei Cieli.
Le scoperte della genetica e di tutte altre discipline che la scienza offre dovrebbero condurci allo stupore e all’umiltà e alla consapevolezza della nostra creaturalità e alla maggiore umiltà e amore di fronte alla magnificenza di Dio che è infinitamente Buono, Intelligente e Sapiente proprio perché è Amore e proprio perché è Amore, Lui è infinito e perfetto in tutto. Quando si raggiunge questa consapevolezza allora diventa più facile ad essere “alla somiglianza di Dio Creatore” e umanizzare la tecnica e le scoperte della genetica ed indirizzarli verso il vero bene, cioè al vero servizio del prossimo e della sua vita, salute, integrità e vera libertà verso anche coloro che potrebbero potenzialmente avere la maggiore predisposizione di patologie genetiche indicate dalla diagnosi prenatale ma anche verso coloro che realmente soffrono di malattie genetiche per esempio: distrofia di Duchenne, fenilchetonuria, Sindrome di Down, la malattia di Klinfelter. Quando si guarda in questa ottica, allora i valori di verità, libertà e giustizia si manifestano nei principi di bene comune, dignità, solidarietà, sussidiarietà. Più dignità c’è meglio è, più libertà c’è meglio è, più verità c’è meglio è. Verità: anche se malato con difetto genetico tu sei figlio di Dio, libertà; tu non sei quel difetto genetico, tu sei molto di più e tu sei degno di vivere e sei importante!… Solidarietà: ti sosteniamo, ti aiutiamo, sussidiarietà: La politica e il governo aiuta con i mezzi di sostegno, con i farmaci, con l’aiuto alle famiglie con figli che hanno difetti genetici, e quindi Bene Comune, e quindi la carità = Deus Caritas est. Mentre la solidarietà ha per oggetto l’altro, la carità ha per oggetto Dio. Ubi Caritas est Vera Deus ibi est. Più ami Dio, più ami altri e diventi simile a Dio, cioè alter Christus.
Quindi ripeto che ogni scoperta ed ogni progresso nell’ambito tecnologico, biomedico, scientifico, ossia ogni mattone che mettono, ogni artificio che noi costituiamo, dovrebbe portarci al riconoscimento di Dio Creatore e al riconoscimento della nostra creaturalita nell’amore e umiltà. Perché ogni mattone che noi costruiamo la felicità è sempre più là. Perché la tecnica e le tecnologie si instaurano nell’ambito dell’agire che è solo un aspetto dell’essere umano, ma non è quell’ambito più profondo e quindi non può dargli la felicità. Perché la perfezione dell’essere umano non è solo pratica – attivo, ma anche etico – contemplativo. Devo agire bene per raggiungere il Sommo Bene, il Dio Creatore per contemplare la sua Gloria, nell’Amore Trinitario e nella perfetta comunione con Dio Uno – Trino. Per questo dobbiamo fare bene il bene e per questo dobbiamo indirizzare la tecnica e le scoperte della genetica ecc, che sono certamente i doni di Dio Creatore e l’espressione della sua infinitudine, saggezza e bontà. Dobbiamo indirizzarli verso il bene e non verso il male, per la vita e non contro la vita, perché la tecnica in sé stessa non è mai neutra, la scienza in sé stessa non è mai neutra, ma ha sempre che fare con la responsabilità dell’uomo, perché è uomo che interviene sull’altro uomo che è una persona e ha la sua dignità e la sacralità della vita perché è persona. Quindi la tecnica non è neutra e va usata o nel bene o nel male, o verso il servizio e la gloria di Dio o verso il peccato, verso la verità o verso la menzogna, verso interessi del paziente o verso interessi socioeconomici.
Quindi per ultimo: La malattia e la morte ci ricordano della nostra finitudine e quindi la felicità consiste in altra strada, come ho detto; Nella unione perfetta con Dio Creatore che ci ha creati nell’amore per sé. Quia inquietur est cor meum donec requiescat in Te.
