Advent meditation: From the very beginning of scripture, we see the work of the Trinity: God the Father creating through the speaking of the Word and the Spirit hovering over the waters. On the first day, God created the heavens already perfect, but created the Earth dark, formless, and empty, until creation would come into its fullness through the incarnation. God then brought forth light to illuminate the dark creation.
Prayer: O God, send forth Your light into our mind and heart so that we may think and act according to Your will.
Scripture: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. (Genesis 1:1-5)
