Meditation: God is love. God is perfect in Himself as He eternally subsists as a perfect loving communion of three persons, so He had no need to create anything else. However, God is so loving that He freely willed to create us. This love is shown forth in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. He loved us so much not even just to create us, but to unite Himself to our nature and then give up His life to save us from our own sins.
Old Testament Reading: Deuteronomy 6:4-7
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
New Testament Reading: 1 John 4:7-11
Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
Prayer: (Psalm 51:10-12)
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
