Meditation: Today, we celebrate the Trinity. The Trinity is the source of all creation. God the Father created the world through the Son and the Holy Spirit. We see this in the opening lines of Genesis. We hear of God the Father, then we see the Holy Spirit hovering over the creation to form it, and then finally God speaks through a Word (ie the Son) to actually form the world. No one besides the Trinity did this work of creating on the first six days.
Old Testament Reading: Genesis 1:1-3
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
New Testament Reading: John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Prayer: (From Compline in the Byzantine Rite)
My hope is the Father, my refuge is the Son, my protection is the Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity, glory to You.
