Meditation: God created many different kinds of animals to reflect His infinite nature in many diverse ways. These animals teach us things about God and ourselves. For example the book of Proverbs teaches us how we can learn from ants: “ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer” (Prov 30:25). From this we can learn that even if we are not strong, we should be like ants and work together to provide for our community. By meditating upon the animals, we can learn to better understand God and grow in the virtues.
Psalm verse: Thou makest springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills, they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild asses quench their thirst. Thou makest darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep forth. The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God. (Ps 104:10-11, 20-21)
Prayer: Thank you, O Lord, for the gift of land animals.
Scripture: And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the cattle according to their kinds, and everything that creeps upon the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. (Gen 1:24-25)
