Advent meditation: On the seventh day of creation God rested and blessed all that He had created. We follow this pattern by working for six days and resting on the seventh. God’s rest on the first Saturday also foreshadowed his eventual resting in the tomb on Holy Saturday. Our own rest then each week is a sign of our eternal rest with God in Heaven after we depart this life.
Prayer: O God, help me to make every Sabbath holy so that after I die I may join You in eternal rest.
Scripture: Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation. (Gen 2:1-3)
